Bogus Insurance Claims of Whiplash Cost Every Driver Almost £100
Despite there being a fall in the number of car accidents, bogus insurance claims of whiplash are costing every driver almost £100.
It has been revealed that thousands of whiplash claims are resulting in the average car insurance policy surging by £90.
According to a survey of GPs by the King’s Fund, the accident rate has dropped by 16% but yet a ‘whiplash epidemic’ across the UK is resulting in a massive £2billion a year craze.
The number of claims has increased by 30% in the past three years, jumping to 570,000 a year- or just one claim per minute.
Findings from the Insurance Fraud Bureau, state that at least 30,000 whiplash claims are outright fraudulent and are costing £350 million a year. Insurers say some doctors and ambulance-chasing lawyers are ‘scamming the system’ and data shows that 47% of UK doctors think the claims system is flawed.
They are calling on the government to implement new guidelines to tackle the culture; one that has a more robust process for diagnosing, treating and dealing with whiplash insurance claims. One insurer said that the current system, as evident of the findings, is wide open to abuse and allows false claims to be made.
There are over 1,600 whiplash diagnoses a day, so get specialist insurance claims advice with professional loss assessors.
